Transplanting a young tropical plant: prepare and monitor
Transplanting moves an already rooted young plant into a suitable container. It differs from taking a cutting, whose method depends on the species.
Check the plant and roots
Identify the plant, its stage of growth and current mix. Prepare a pot with drainage holes, a suitable substrate and clean tools. Do not apply one stem-cutting method to every species; a leaf alone cannot always produce a complete plant.
Transplant with care
- Prepare the container and mix for the plant.
- Handle the root ball carefully and check the roots without damaging them unnecessarily.
- Position the plant according to its shape rather than burying stems arbitrarily.
- Check that the plant is stable and water can drain away.
- Record the date and adapt care to the new container.
Monitor the setup
Compare seed-starting and cutting equipment and read the repotting guide. For the mix and watering, use the substrate guide and the watering method. No single rooting time is guaranteed for every plant.
